York sign Warrington forward

York City Knights have announced the loan signing of Jacob Gannon from Betfred Super League club Warrington Wolves on a week-to-week loan.

Back-rower Gannon is the son of Jim Gannon and the brother of Leeds Rhinos youngster Morgan Gannon and, while he is yet to make his debut for Warrington, he has made an impact at junior level.

In Summer 2020, he was included in the England Academy performance squad which was scheduled to tour Australia and New Zealand before COVID-19 struck and the tour got cancelled.

Gannon comes into contention for the Knights this weekend after a tough encounter against Featherstone.

On his signing, head coach James Ford, who has previously worked with Gannon in the England Academy setup, said: “Jacob is a young middle with good ball skills and a very good approach to developing his game. I enjoyed working with him previously and I’m looking forward to coaching him again.”
