York Knights have secured the signing of former Wakefield Trinity youngster Joe Law. The 20-year-old spent the backend of last season on loan with the Championship side and he has now penned a deal to join Mark Applegarth’s side permanently.
The centre certainly caught the eye during his spell with the Knights, scoring six tries in just nine appearances and he’ll be looking to build on that after securing his future in 2025. Law made just one senior appearance for Wakefield, but enjoyed a spell in League One with Hunslet last season, too, scoring four tries as part of their promotion winning campaign.
He becomes York’s seventh signing after Paul McShane, Kieran Buchanan, Jude Ferreira, James Farrar, Jacques O’Neill and Jacob Gannon.
“Joe Law’s a player we brought in when I joined York because we needed a centre with the injuries as they were,” Applegarth, who worked with Law at Wakefield Trinity, said of his latest recruit.
“Through the time at my previous club I knew all about Joe. He’s a player I first signed at 14 years old and I’m really glad that we’ve managed to secure him permanently.
“I think over the next five years he’s going to really start to make his mark on rugby league. In my opinion he’s a player that’s got all the attributes to play top level rugby and I’m sure the York fans will agree with me on that.
“He’s a really coachable kid that I can’t wait to carry on seeing develop so again, he’s another that I’m delighted to have on board.”
It seems as though Law will be competing with Buchanan and Ferreira for centre spot at the LNER Community Stadium, with York building a squad that they will feel is capable of challenging at the top end of the Championship league table once more.
