York Knights land NRL star as first signing for 2027 revealed

York Knights

After much speculation, York Knights have secured their first signing ahead of 2027, and he arrives from the NRL.

Cronulla Sharks loose forward, Cameron McInnes, will join the club on a three-year deal, in what is another high-profile name joining the northern hemisphere competition.

With Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and Damien Cook amongst those confirmed to be making the move, McInnes joins that pair in signing a Super League contract for next season.

At 32, McInnes is a former State of Origin player with New South Wales, and has been the Sharks’ captain since the start of 2024, but an ACL injury ruled him out for the back-end of the 2025 season.

When York were first rumoured in signing the forward, boss Mark Applegarth said to the press that he is “100%” a player the club would be interested in, and that has shown with The Daily Telegraph reporting that a deal is done.

New NRL franchise Perth Bears and other Super League clubs were said to be interested in his signature, but it is the Knights who have secured his services, and he is yet another experienced NRL man to add to the squad – as he joins the likes of Paul Vaughan and David Nofoaluma at the club.

McInnes has 229 NRL appearances to his name, and back in 2023 he was selected in the Australian Prime Minister’s XIII to take on Papua New Guinea.
