York City Knights sign Davis

York City Knights have signed Sam Davis from London Broncos on a one-year deal.

A Broncos academy product, 22-year-old Davis arrives as the second hooker signed for 2022, following on from Will Jubb, and he will be looking to build on a 2021 campaign in which he made eight appearances for London.

On the recruitment of Davis, head coach James Ford said: “I’m delighted to sign Sam. He is a tenacious hooker who will provide energy and effort in abundance.

“He’ll add a huge amount of competitive spirit to our middle unit.”

Hooker Davis added: “I’m buzzing. It’s a club that I’ve had my eye on for a few years with Fordy as the coach and with the facilities they’ve got. The general direction the club is looking to head is something I want to be a part of and, hopefully, I can be part of the reason we move forward.

“Having spoken to Fordy, he’s really impressed with the work Jamie Langley and Danny Ward have done with me down in London and he’s excited to coach me, make me progress and give me a few more skills and assets.

“It’s a good opportunity for me and one I’m really looking forward to.

A Midlands native, Davis pointed to his route to the Broncos and, now, the Knights, saying “I came through the Midlands RL pathway, the same as Jason Bass. I played at college and then, at the age of 17, I went to London Broncos.”
