World Cup star’s huge Super League transfer confirmed

We have already seen Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves and Hull KR confirm major signings for the 2024 season and now it seems Castleford Tigers aren’t far behind them despite the relegation battle they find themselves in.

Some would say after a difficult 2023 it would be tough for the Tigers to prepare for the 2024 season but that is why it is vital as Andy Last looks to rebuild the squad for the future and lower the average age of the squad after their struggles this year.

The Tigers have only won four games, two against Leeds Rhinos, one against Wakefield Trinity and a triumph over Warrington Wolves which at the time looked set to keep the Tigers safe as it opened up a huge six point lead on their West Yorkshire rivals Wakefield at the bottom but that has been clawed back to just two points at present.

Nonetheless, despite focus on immediate signings as well like Kayal Iro and George Burgess, the Tigers are reportedly interested in Papua New Guinea World Cup stars Nixon Putt and Sylvester Namo and Andy Last confirmed that interest recently.

“Yeah, definitely on the radar. Two players that we’ve looked at with interest, players that have got good pedigree,” he said.

“You know, he played against the England team in the World Cup, was very, very dominant in that PNG team.

“The age profile, they’re certainly players that we’ve had a good look at.”

There is a slight concern over Namo however: “Yeah, he’s recovering from a knee injury.”

However, Last said he wouldn’t be too concerned about this expecting him to be fit for next year:

“Potentially, but we’ve had a good look. He’s only 22 years of age, so he’s of a good age and yeah he’s obviously picked up a bit of an injury.

“But you know that was you know I think it was over two months ago now so and if we you know were to you know sign him you know he’d be available in the early rounds for next season so you know there’s a little bit of short-term pain for long-term game if we obviously did sign that chap.”

Putt’s move was confirmed by the player speaking in The National in PNG.

Now Namo’s move has been confirmed as well.

Lombardi Sports Management shared an image of the player signing the contract with teh caption:

“Sylvester Namo headed to the Super League!! Huge congratulations to our PNG man who has signed with the Castelford Tigers for the 2024 season. Thank you for trusting us and we can’t wait to see you dominate in England.”
