NRL star linked with rugby league exit

Canterbury Bulldogs star Matt Burton has been linked with a move to the NFL.

It comes after the former Penrith Panthers man shone for Canterbury Bulldogs in 2022.

A key player for the Bulldogs, they are expecting plenty of competition for his signature but may have been surprised when there was interest from the NFL inviting him to kick at a combine.

Though an option for him in the future, his manager David Riolo revealed that at present it is unlikely that he will make the move like others before him.

“Look that is not on our radar at this stage, he has been approached by scouts, to do stuff like that (the NFL combine) and kick,” Riolo said.

“He could do it tomorrow the way he kicks a ball, but he wants to play footy and he is only young and has goals.

“Yep, it’s something down the track, he can kick a ball.”

Jacob Smillie, formerly of Bradford Bulls and Halifax Panthers, recently returned from American football hoping for a return to rugby.

He had a spell with Wigan Warriors reserves in 2022.
