Woolf praises Saints defence

St Helens Head Coach Kristian Woolf has praised his side’s defence during their 10-0 win over Castleford Tigers.

They won thanks to two penalties from Lachlan Coote, and a 77th minute try from Theo Fages. It is also the second straight game they have stopped their opponents from scoring a single point.

He said: “The thing about a game like tonight is, you will have games where things aren’t quite working attack-wise for whatever reason.

“Sometimes it’s really good defence, and sometimes it’s because your’re a little bit off. I thought we were a bit of both tonight.

“There was some really good defence from Castleford, they did a great job and showed their desperation on numerous occasions, and we were just a little bit off.

“We created opportunities, but didn’t quite make the jump on support,  or getting it right on a couple of half-opportunities we had.

“When that’s the case, you have to win through your defence. We showed tonight that if we defend like that, we keep ourselves in the contest every week.”
