Woolf gives injury update as stars set to return in upcoming weeks

St Helens’ Regan Grace went off with a head injury against Catalans last week and, despite head coach Kristian Woolf saying he is fine, the winger will miss the tie against Hull FC due to concussion protocols.

“Regan Grace is fine, he’s recovered really well, but he won’t be available this week with the concussion protocols, but he should be fine for next week,” Woolf said.

The Saints boss also gave an update on Tommy Makinson.

“He ran terrifically today to be honest, he was sharp and moved quick today.

“What we won’t be doing is taking a risk, we don’t want Tommy to re-injure something or find a new injury so to speak.

“We will gauge that in the next day or so, if he’s not 100% he won’t play.”

Woolf is interested in bringing in youngster Josh Simm after a loan spell at Leigh.

“Josh Simm has had a couple of runs with Leigh, so he is back with us and we all know what capabilities he has got.

“If he gets an opportunity this week it will be great for him.

“It’s a big game against good opposition and I think he will do a good job if he gets selected.”

Woolf is hopeful that his side will improve from a disappointing showing at Catalans.

“From the review, we were extremely disappointed with the loss, but even more so with the way we played.

“It was a challenge that was presented to us, but we played a lot off our standards that we had in the early rounds.

“At the end of the day, we need to overcome those challenges and come up with a better performance, which we didn’t do.

“We’ve been very honest and looked at how we can improve this week, but what’s really important is how we respond.

“Good teams respond positively after a loss and I’ve got no doubt we will respond really well.”
