Willie Peters outlines Hull KR pride after ‘best performance of 2025’

Hull KR

Hull KR turned in their best showing of the season so far as they beat St Helens 20-10 at the Totally Wicked Stadium. That’s the opinion of head coach Willie Peters, who saw his side move top of the Super League table with four games played.

The Robins have won all four of the Super League games they’ve played this season, but were accused of underwhelming in fixtures prior to Friday night’s outing against the Saints. They were close to firing on all cylinders in Merseyside, though, with the returning Mikey Lewis touching down following what was a huge defensive effort to take control of the contest and set the tone.

Tom Davies scored just before the interval and an Oliver Gildart brace secured the victory against a team many expect to be up at the top end of the Super League table come the end of the season.

“I think so,” Peters said if that was Rovers’ best performance so far after four rounds. “It was pretty good.

“At Wakefield we performed pretty well but we only won by two points and we were playing against a pretty good team on that night, I’m really happy with our performance tonight.”

The Hull KR boss added: “We’re not getting carried away but we want to celebrate the little wins along the way, that’s certainly one for us especially against a really good team. I was really proud of the players tonight.

“What we did at the start is what set it up, sometimes I’d like to see more points in the scoreboard but we put a fair bit of fatigue into them and got them in the back end.

“We had a lot of field position and they were starting to fatigue because they’d done a lot of tackling but we were only one try ahead at the time and then they went ahead.

“We got that one just before half-time but we should have been up two or three tries with the field position that we had. We spoke at half-time and said if we put that back into them at half-time then hopefully we’ll get the rewards. We probably should have closed it out a lot better.

“Overall I’m really really happy, it’s just a period for us to get better, we can always get better.”
