Hull KR boss Willie Peters has admitted that he will need a second look at the sin bin offence by star man Mikey Lewis, however, he was clear on one thing and that was just how poor his side’s defensive efforts were.
Warrington Wolves won 34-28 at Craven Park, though 12 of KR’s points came in the final two minutes as they scored consolation tries, something Peters would take pride in.
However, he took issue with just how many soft points his side conceded, admitting that the second half in particular was not good enough.
“Yeah it was,” Peters said post-match on Sky Sports when asked if the second half had been ‘tough to watch’.
He added: “There was a lot to like, I thought, in moments of that game, but there was certainly not a lot of moments that we’d like back again – inside shoulders, coming straight through the middle of us, it’s just not good enough.
“I thought we had an opportunity down the other end where we gave a penalty away and then we stopped defending it so it’s disappointing but I’m disappointed with the tries that we let in.
“Warrington’s a very good team, not taking anything away from them, but they didn’t have to work for coming through the middle of us. It was just [a case of us] pretty much giving up an inside shoulder, which is an area that we pride ourselves in.”

Hull KR boss proud of late effort as recovery starts for four-day turnaround
The Robins did manage to make the scoreline look somewhat more favourable, scoring two tries in the final two minutes, something Sam Burgess explained distorted the scoreline.
As for Peters, he admitted it was a sign that the team’s pride remained in tact, stating: “I said it at half time, they’re brave, and I’ll say it again.
“It’s a brave team because it could have got worse but we clawed some points back so I’m proud of that, but obviously the game was gone. We don’t let scoreboard dictate how we play, so I’m pleased with that.”
Hull KR had played those final ten minutes, during which they score twice, with just 12 men after star man Mikey Lewis was sent to the sin for making contact with Ewan Irwin as he kick.
It was Lewis’ fourth sin bin of the season, the last coming for a late hit on Irwin as he passed in these side’s round 23 fixture, though Peters admitted he couldn’t issue a full verdict having not seen a replay.
He said: “I need to have a look. Obviously, he went to charge down, but I don’t know how bad it was, so I need to have a look at that.”
Hull KR won’t have long to lick their wounds with the Robins back in action on Saturday when they host Toulouse, with Peters admitting: “Look, we can’t dwell on that too much. Coaches will look at it, we’ll send clips out, but the main thing now is recovery and we go again in four days.”
