Hull KR’s pre-season is well underway, in fact they were the first club to start pre-season training as they look to return to the play-offs in 2023.
They’ll be led by a new coach in Willie Peters who is now on Humberside looking to make an impression.
He already has with some major signings especially from the NRL and has explained the thought process behind the recruitment of Rhys Kennedy and Jesse Sue.
On the Hull KR website he said: “They’re good people, that’s my number one trait that I look for, I was fortunate to work with Rhys Kennedy and Jesse Sue, they’re both quality people.
“What Jesse Sue will bring is experience in the middle. Rhys Kennedy has got a good offload game on him. But what these two guys both bring is work hard in defence.”
He also revealed the wider reasons for why he signed centre Tom Opacic: “Most people look at a centre firstly for the way they attack. But I looked at Tom Opacic for his work ethic and what he does defensively. The guys I’m bringing in from Australia, they are all hard workers.”
He is also very excited to work with the young players at Craven Park and made a bold claim about one youngster in particular: “Mikey Lewis and Jez Litten, are the X-Factors of our team. Lewis’ best years are ahead, he’s got a lot of learning and developing before we see that. But, there’s no doubt Mikey will be doing some special things next year.”
Ultimately, Peters is looking to achieve something special with Hull KR: ”The main objective is to get them ready for round one and have a team that the community can be proud of.”
