Tonight Hull KR were stunned by Leigh Leopards a week before their big derby against Hull FC next week.
You might say stunned is a strong word given Leigh’s recent form but it wasn’t the result but rather the scoreline that was stunning.
The Robins have been seen as a genuine contender at times this year but were outplayed by the Leopards.
After the game coach Willie Peters gave a very frank assessment of his side: “It wasn’t a good performance was it? It started with kicking out on the full, 10 minutes in the bin early.
“We weren’t at the races today, there is no doubt about that. We need a good look at ourselves.
“We need a good look at our prep this week and how we prepared for the game because honestly I thought we had good prep.
“So we need to have a look at a few things. We were out played in a lot of areas tonight.”
When asked if his side were off it, Peters said: “Yeah absolutely, I’d say from the start, we were off from the start.
“I thought there was a little period there when it was 16-0 down and we started to get back in the game but they scored again which hurt us.
“But we were off in every area of the game tonight and I will not shy away from that.
“We need to be better. We are going to have an honest review like always and we need to have a look at what we need to do.”
The Robins host Hull FC in the derby next week. It is a huge game for both sides and the Black and Whites will be aiming to avenge their earlier defeat this season.
Asked if confidence would be low now, Peters said: “There is no doubt that you will be low on confidence after a defeat like that.
“They need to look at themselves and as staff we need to look at ourselves and see what we need to better.
“If you don’t look within first you don’t get better.”
That said, Peters noted that he couldn’t let his players be down: “But if I go into the changing room and the mood is too down that will carry into next week and I am not going to do that.”
