Willie Peters confirms trio will depart at end of season

It’s that time of the year when players can speak with fellow clubs and contracts start to get negotiated and Hull KR are no different.

Rovers have started the season in brilliant form and are currently on a run of six wins as they head to face top of the table Warrington Wolves on Friday.

As referenced the rumour mill has been working overtime and now the Robins’ boss Willie Peters has confirmed that three players won’t be going again at Craven Park in 2024.

That trio has been confirmed as backs Ethan Ryan, Sam Wood and Jimmy Keinhorst.

“The experienced and older guys we’re having ongoing conversations with at the moment, SKD, Linnett and Coote,” Peters stated before outlining who would depart.

“Ethan Ryan and Jimmy Keinhorst are looking at other opportunities elsewhere.”

When asked if that was an admission that the trio would leave he confirmed: “Yes I expect them to move.

“Sam Wood is the other, we’ve had some conversations and he wants to be a first team centre in the future.

“Sam is a very good player, and he will be for the rest of the season. I can’t guarantee Sam Wood he will be a starting centre.”

There have been heavy rumours of Wood departing and potentially even linking up with former Robins boss Tony Smith at Hull FC.

The centre has impressed and was called upon during the period in which captain Shaun Kenny-Dowall was suspended, but of late has found himself left out.

Part of that has come from the introduction from Corey Hall who Rovers acquired in a swap deal from Wakefield Trinity and Peters admitted that the young centre joining was in part a reason why Wood may look elsewhere.
