Willie Peters concerned about Wakefield pitch

Wakefield Trinity vs Hull KR will go ahead as scheduled on Friday night.

The RFL have determined that Friday’s Betfred Super League fixture between Wakefield Trinity and Hull KR can go ahead as scheduled at the Be Well Support Stadium.

An inspection of the playing surface has been conducted, with officials of both clubs present, following issues since the pitch was relaid during the off-season.

An independent consultant confirmed that the playing surface has improved significantly in the 17 days since the Huddersfield fixture on 3 March, and the RFL Board have therefore ruled that the match can go ahead as planned.

Now on the Robins YouTube channel, Willie Peters has expressed his concern about the pitch.

“It is what it. It’s been announced that we are playing on that ground. An independent person has gone to have a look at the ground and say it’s ok, so we’ve just got to crack on with it.

“Have you guys seen any photos? They’re out there.”

“As a club we’re not going to go through the process that we went through if we don’t believe that there’s strong evidence that the field isn’t right.

“Now we’re in a position where we are playing, the independent person has said we’re okay to play so we’ll run with that.

“Naturally we’ll wait and see after the game how it holds up because going by the first two games the field wasn’t right.

“As a coach you care about your players and when players reach out to me and show me photos of their condition, it wasn’t good.

“That’s why we went and had a look at the pitch, we’ve done it twice. Now that an independent person has gone and said it’s fine then we’ll run with that.

“I had some tough tough players, who’ve played on the pitch before, have their say on the pitch but hopefully now it’s all put behind us as the pitch has been inspected and all ticked off.

“I expressed concerns from what I’d seen and heard, naturally to try look after our players.

“I’m not disappointed about it because people have made decisions and had a look but there’s no doubt that if, IF, it’s similar to how it has been and players end up how I’ve seen then naturally then I’ll be disappointed.”
