Hull KR head coach Willie Peters, ahead of their Super League game against Leeds Rhinos, has compared his side’s fans to a huge NRL club.
After seeing Wigan Warriors secure the League Leaders’ Shield in commanding fashion on Thursday night, Hull KR know they will only have a top two place to play for against the Rhinos. However, the Robins hopes of winning their first piece of major silverware since 1985 are still firmly alive with the club knowing a win against Brad Arthur’s side would take them to within just 80 minutes of Old Trafford.
Craven Park has been a sell-out for every game this season, according to the club, and this will again be the case for this game – plus temporary additional seating too.
Willie Peters compares Hull KR fans to NRL giants
Peters, in the pre-match press conference, said: “It’ll be a typical night at Craven Park with thousands of KR fans who are passionate for their team.
“They’re passionate. I was involved at the Rabbits (South Sydney Rabbitohs) and there are a lot of similarities between both clubs.
“They’re a passionate group over there but they’re a special bunch here.
“We haven’t had major losses or consecutive losses over the last couple of years but I can see that they’re a loyal bunch and I think if they can see that their players are putting (effort) in then they reward that and they acknowledge that.”
Referencing the club’s recent exponential improvements both on and off the field, Peters admitted: “Now there’s a bit more expectation of where the group’s at.
“I think they’re enjoying what they’re seeing and what the players are doing for them each week.
“I always say there is a great relationship between the players and the fans and I’m looking forward to seeing that on Friday night.
“It’s players through their actions and obviously how vocal the fans are, that’s the communication to each other and the fans are starting to appreciate the way this team defends and how hard they work for each other and I like hearing them in the box when they’re vocal around their defence because that certainly gives the players a lift.”
