Willie Peters has assessed his Hull KR side’s 22-8 victory over Leigh Leopards this evening.
The Robins earned back-to-back wins, and extended their home winning run against Leigh to six matches.
It’s their 12th win in a row at Craven Park, with tries coming from Joe Burgess, Jai Whitbread, Peta Hiku and Bill Leyland helping them to their latest two points.
KR were far from perfect, making over a dozen errors across the game. They were perhaps fortunate that Leigh couldn’t capitalise, and will need to improve their completion next week when they take on table-toppers Leeds Rhinos.
Speaking to Sky Sports post-match, he said: “I’m quite happy we got the two points, but there was a lot of errors.
“I think every single time we scored a try, we didn’t complete our next set. Couldn’t get out of our end.
“I was happy with our defence. I thought we defended well. We turned the ball over a lot.
“We’re still improving our defence. But beating Leigh is never easy, so I’m happy with that.”
Commenting further on the errors made, he said: “We spoke about [errors] at halftime.
“Look, staff and coaches, you need to own a lot. But there are certain things that players need to own as well.
“Simple play the balls and catching the ball, that type of thing is on an individual. But, you don’t want to lock them up as well because, at the end of the day, they’re not going out and meaning to do it.
“That’s why we value competing and effort. But some of the errors tonight were just too simple. But as I said, we defended well in terms of not letting any points in. Or too many points, should I say.”
Rovers now have a Las Vegas re-match to prepare for, as they travel to Headingley to take on the table-topping Rhinos.
On next week’s fixture, the KR boss said: “Leeds are a very good team. Obviously, we know about that from Vegas. I admire what they’ve done all season. There’s no secret to the way Brad [Arthur] wants them playing, and that’s with an aggressive physical style.
“We need to match that, and we certainly didn’t do that last time. So I’m looking forward to seeing an improvement in that area.”
