Willie Peters addresses Elliot Minchella sin bin ahead of nervous Hull KR disciplinary wait

Hull KR boss Willie Peters is hopeful that Elliot Minchella can avoid a ban following his sin-binning on Friday night.

The Rovers captain was shown a yellow card in KR’s 24-0 win over Leigh Leopards after catching Matt Moylan with a high shot as the full-back collected a high kick. The incident was deemed dangerous enough for referee Chris Kendall to take action and it will now be assessed by the RFL’s Match Review Panel on Monday.

As such, the club and its supporters may be fearing the worst, with a ban leaving the club without a key player on the final day of the season and potentially into the play-offs, with KR now just 160 minutes from a Grand Final appearance at Old Trafford.

Rovers will have their fingers crossed for good news then and while Peters has stressed the contact with Moylan’s head was accidental, he’s just hoping the disciplinary decision makers view it that way, too.

“You don’t know, do you?” Peters said, per the Yorkshire Post, when referencing the colour of the card shown by the referee. “You’re just waiting.

“I need to have another look at it but it’s one of those where players are going up and they’re coming down, it’s very difficult to get your tackle right.

“I don’t think there was any intent. It’s one of those where we’ll just have to wait until Monday but hopefully they see it for what it is.

“I don’t think he went out to swing an arm and take Matty Moylan’s head off, that’s for sure. It was accidental.

“I saw it live and then I saw a replay quickly, and I thought the 10 minutes was sufficient if they’re going to give those for contact around the head.”

Hull KR host Leeds Rhinos next Friday night knowing a win will secure their place in the play-off semi-finals.

mmmmm. don’t think you could say it was accidental. deffo a swinging arm, possible shoulder to head as well. ref stated there was mitigation but did not say what it was. if the panel are consistant he should get at least a game ban. hope he dosen’t though because i was dissapointed with the leigh captain asking why it was not a red. don’t need that coming into the game as well as the staying down for a pen. fair play to Moylan he didn’t.
