Will Leeds Rhinos rue they let one of their own get away after stellar Bradford Bulls performance?

There was no room for AJ Wallace in the Leeds Rhinos side for 2022.

So, following his release from the Headingley outfit, John Kear at the Bradford Bulls picked him up.

And, it’s been a match made in heaven so far with Wallace scoring a long-range solo try against Dewsbury Rams at the weekend, proving himself to be a big hit with fans, teammates and coaches alike so far.

Kear told the Telegraph and Argus: “It just shows the number of good youngsters that Leeds have got. AJ was told there was no room for him because of what was in front of him.“I understand that because you’ve got people like (Morgan) Gannon and Rhyse Martin and so on. But he can play as he has demonstrated.

“I’m really pleased for him and pleased with what he has contributed to the team.

“When these lads get a chance, then they seize it.

“He’s had a 10 out of 10 pre-season and I think a seven or eight performance against Dewsbury. He can feel very happy with what he’s done.”

Bradford’s thrashing of Dewsbury means that Kear’s men go into this weekend’s tie with Sheffield Eagles in a buoyant mood.

“You can’t expect to have a complete performance in round one and we didn’t get that,” added Kear.

“We had a very good one and the nice thing is that when it isn’t complete, it’s easy to identify the areas you need to pick up on. It gives us something to do in the week.”
