Wigan Warriors vs Warrington Wolves: Team news, match preview and score prediction

This is always a huge fixture but doesn’t have the same stakes as many expected it to have at the start of the season when the fixtures were released.

Many anticipated this to be a major tussle in the play-off race, but instead Wigan are firmly settled inside the play-offs whilst Warrington are striving to banish any fears of relegation.

As things get tougher for Daryl Powell’s Wolves, can they pick up a vital win.

Wigan have problems at nine with Thomas Leuluai still out injured, Sam Powell joining him and young Brad O’Neill controversially suspended. Fortunately, Brad Singleton returns from the ban picked up at the Magic Weekend.

George Williams should be back for Warrington after missing the defeat to Huddersfield. He’ll make his 250th appearance against his former club. Thomas Mikaele should be fit enough to play but new recruit Matt Dufty will miss the next few weeks.

Match Preview – Key Battles:

Jai Field vs Josh Thewlis: Josh Thewlis may have to come into the side at fullback after the loss of Matt Dufty. An excellent young player he’ll have his work cut out shutting down opposite number and Super League’s current Super man Jai Field.

Bevan French vs Matty Ashton: Two electric players will come up against each other down the wing this week. Both have great pace, top tier footwork and as they collide it could be like a race between two formula 1 cars.

Cade Cust vs George Williams: A pair of great halfbacks who can organise and create with equal measures. The halfback who can control the game will likely lead their team to victory.

Where the game will be won and lost:

The thing Warrington must do is shut down Jai Field and Bevan French which is easier said than done. If they can then the next hurdle they need to leap is staying in command of the game late on which is something they’ve struggled with recently.
