Wigan Warriors v Wakefield Trinity teams confirmed as Matt Peet makes Bevan French decision

Wigan Warriors

Wigan Warriors welcome Bevan French back into the fold this week as Matt Peet’s side host Wakefield Trinity at the Brick Community Stadium. Wigan enter this afternoon’s contest in third after St Helens took the opportunity to leapfrog the Warriors on Friday night.

However, they can return to the top two with a win over Wakefield and in doing so they would cut the gap between themselves and league leaders Hull KR to four points with four games remaining. Wakefield need the points too though and they know that a win over the Cherry and Whites would carry them back into the play-offs spots.

Daryl Powell’s side haven’t played in two weeks after seeing last week’s game with Salford Red Devils called off and they’ll be feeling fresh. But the sight of French’s name on the teamsheet will have raised a few eyebrows in the Trinity camp.

Speaking earlier this week, Peet suggested that French, who has been struggling with a calf injury, would not be involved this week by saying the half-back was on a similar trajectory to Luke Thompson, who wouldn’t be fit for another couple of weeks.

However, French was included in the 21-man squad for the third week running this week and he has been deemed fit enough to make a return to action today.

He partners Harry Smith in the halves for Wigan with Adam Keighran being moved back into his natural centre spot. Zach Eckersley keeps his spot in the team though with Abbas Miski dropping out. Miski was named in the squad but his season has been blighted by injuries.

Sam Walters keeps hold of his spot in the side, too, despite Junior Nsemba returning from a head knock and that means the England international must make do with a spot on the bench. There’s no Tyler Dupree either with Patrick Mago and Harvie Hill being the options off the bench.

The big news for Wakefield is that Tom Johnstone returns to the fold after struggling with a groin injury for the last month and a half. He starts on the wing, while Cam Scott comes in for the injured Corey Hall at centre.

Matty Storton starts through the middle with Caius Faatili dropping to the bench, while Isaiah Vagana comes into the back-row.

Glad that I didn’t pay any money out for this garbage. Looks like they had just rolled out of the pub after a big binge.
Is it just, have a week off and then play crap. This has now happened twice in a row. I wonder if Castleford can induce Huddersfield to cancel next week’s fixture?
