Wigan Warriors v Salford Red Devils team news amid Jai Field decision and Salford latest

Wigan Warriors

Matt Peet has made just one change to his Wigan Warriors line up to take on Salford Red Devils this weekend. The Cherry and Whites are due to host Salford on Sunday and after falling short against Leeds Rhinos last time out they’ll be keen to get back on the horse and return to winning ways.

As Peet confirmed in his press conference on Wednesday, Brad O’Neill has named in the squad for the first time since rupturing his ACL last summer. The hooker isn’t expected to start straight away, of course, with the Warriors easing him back into the action slowly.

As such, it seems a bench spot is most likely for O’Neill, with Kruise Leeming expected to be the lead number nine on Sunday. Abbas Miski is the man to drop out with the winger continuing to struggle with injury.

Miski hasn’t played since the win over Warrington Wolves in Las Vegas and he dropped out of the warm up last week at Headingley, prompting a switch up in the outside backs. Interestingly, Jai Field has been named in the squad, with the full-back pushing to make a return from the hamstring issue he sustained against Hull FC a fortnight ago.

He missed last week’s game at Leeds and it remains to be seen if he will be risked against the Red Devils.

After seeing players and staff go unpaid once more this week, Salford are yet to name their 21-man squad. At the time of writing, it is understood that the club plan name a group of players at some point today having missed the midday deadline, but how that will look at this point remains to be seen. With players refusing to train today there are also questions still to be answered about their willingness to fulfil this weekend’s fixture as a result.

Wigan Warriors: Jai Field, Jake Wardle, Liam Marshall, Bevan French, Harry Smith, Brad O’Neill, Luke Thompson, Junior Nsemba, Liam Farrell, Kaide Ellis, Patrick Mago, Liam Byrne, Kruise Leeming, Tyler Dupree, Harvie Hill, Sam Walters, Zach Eckersley, Jack Farrimond, Jacob Douglas, Harvey Makin.
