The Super League Grand Final is in touching distance and the team news for both Wigan Warriors and Hull KR has now been revealed.
It is a Grand Final that has been described by Sky Sports presenter Brian Carney as the “most eagerly anticipated in history” and the ticket sales would suggest that the Irishman isn’t far wrong.
The attendance is expected to eclipse 65,000 and be the highest crowd since the 2017 Grand Final between Leeds Rhinos and Castleford Tigers. It is almost certain to record a 10,000 or more increase from the 2023 Grand Final that Wigan won.
Wigan being the Grand Final holders is one of the big narratives coming into today’s game with the match-up being dubbed as ‘David versus Goliath’ by some given that it is Hull KR’s first trip to Old Trafford to contest a Grand Final.
The bookmakers are certainly on the side of Matt Peet’s team who are aiming to win a sixth straight piece of silverware and become the first-ever team in the summer era to win all four trophies in the same calendar year.
Standing in their way are the Man of Steel and the Coach of the Year with Mikey Lewis and Willie Peters picking up those accolades midweek, but who will be playing for each team? The news is now confirmed.
Wigan Warriors team news
The biggest story around Wigan Warriors this week was whether captain Liam Farrell would be passed fit or not after he missed the semi-final with a bout of illness.
Further doubt was cast when loose forward Kaide Ellis stood in for Farrell at the media events but Matt Peet had insisted he would give the veteran all the time he needed.
It has now been confirmed that Liam Farrell does play with the captain taking his spot back in the starting 13 meaning that two-try Sam Walters is unfortunate to miss out after dropping to 18th man.

Hull KR team news
For Hull KR, the return of captain Elliot Minchella after his two-game ban is a huge boost but Oliver Gildart was a surprise omission from the 21-man squad.
The former Wigan man had been suffering from injury but was left out by Willie Peters paving the way for Jack Broadbent to possibly start.
That has now been confirmed with Broadbent retaining his place as Hull KR makes just one change with Elliot Minchella replacing Jack Brown in the squad.
Last week’s 59-tackle man Dean Hadley moves back to second-row with Minchella at loose forward.
