Wigan Warriors v Huddersfield Giants: Preview

George Williams NRL

In-form Wigan Warriors host the Huddersfield Giants at the DW Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Shaun Wane’s men haven’t put a foot wrong so far this season and despite a growing injury list, they outclassed Warrington last week. On the other hand, Huddersfield where humiliated 30-0 by newly promoted Leigh at the Leigh Sports Village.

Many will feel that the Warriors should extend their perfect start against struggling Huddersfield, but half-back Thomas Leuluai believes other teams are still finding their feet and senses their fortunes will improve as the season stretches on. “We’re happy, obviously, with five from five, but I really think there’s a lot of improvement in us.” Leuluai said. “There’s still a lot of work to do. Don’t get me wrong, we’re happy but no one is getting carried away.”

Giants head coach Rick Stone believes their trip to the DW Stadium will be a good opportunity for his side. He addressed the media in his press conference and is looking for an improvement on their performance in Leigh. “We had a look at our structure and at how we competed and there was a lot of decent things coming out of the game, but our last play kicks and our patience wasn’t great.” He added: “We had Leroy, Jerry, Murphy and Lee Gaskell come back and they all came through okay and will be a bit better for it.”

On the game against Wigan Stone said: “It’s a good opportunity and a good challenge, Wigan are a tough team and are one of the powers of Super League and they have always been up there. It’s a good challenge for our blokes to go there and hopefully the boys that played last week who were on the fringe of fitness will be a bit more comfortable this week and our team will be stronger because of that.”
