Wigan Warriors ‘underdogs’ against Catalans Dragons, according to Matt Peet as he gives Bevan French update

It will be Wigan Warriors’ second game in France in as many weeks this Saturday night when they take on Catalans Dragons.

Just a week after facing – and beating – Toulouse Olympique, Wigan have stayed over, going from Toulouse to Montpellier and then to Perpignan.

And, for head coach Matt Peet, he has labelled his Wigan side as ‘underdogs’.

“We are underdogs but it doesn’t alter our approach,” Peet said.

“We need to look at ourselves and we need to embrace our different challenges and learn our lessons.

“We are aware we were the slightest bit off last weekend and we are going to come up against a strong team, the players don’t need telling that Catalans are a good team.”

One player who won’t be available this weekend is Bevan French, but Peet is excited about welcoming the livewire fullback back into the fold in the very near future.

“He looks fit, he’s still not training with the squad fully, he’s doing little bits here and there.

“We need to control his high speed running and acceleration, but it’s brilliant to see him back amongst the lads and it’s exciting.”

A timeframe has been set by the club on when French is likely to return.

“At the moment we are thinking in the Challenge Cup (when he will return) and we will see how that one goes.

“He might make his appearance off the bench, but we are looking to target the Challenge Cup games in two or four weeks.”
