Wigan Warriors cleaned up on trophies in 2024 and they’re well fancied to do so again in 2025 according to the bookmakers.
Matt Peet’s side completed an incredible quadruple-winning season when they defeated Hull KR in the Grand Final at Old Trafford in October. They’re once again firm favourites for success in October 2025.
That 9-2 win to win the Grand Final also meant that the Warriors had won the last six possible pieces of silverware available to them, a feat that could still be added to should they win the Challenge Cup in 2025.
We’ve just had the first and second Round draws for that competition but we’ll have to wait until Round Three, slated for the weekend of the 8th and 9th of February before the holders begin their defence.
No club has gone back-to-back since Hull FC in 2016 and 2017 but Wigan Warriors are fancied as 5/2 favourites with Super League’s sponsor Betfred as well as Sky Bet.
Both companies have also assessed the chances of Wigan Warriors completing the treble with Matt Peet’s side deemed more likely to do that than most sides are of lifting any silverware at all.
What are Wigan Warriors’ chances of completing the treble?
Whilst both Betfred and Sky Bet rate Wigan’s Challenge Cup chances of victory as the same, they differ on the treble with Sky Bet going as short as 10/1 for Matt Peet’s side to repeat the feat.
Sadly, with no World Club Challenge in 2025, Wigan won’t be able to contest all four trophies but they’re deemed as a 10/1 shot to lift each of the Challenge Cup, League Leaders Shield and Grand Final this year.
Betfred make them a 12/1 shot to do so and they’ve also priced up the other Super League sides, making St Helens 66s, Warrington 80s and Hull KR 100s.
Such a disparity in prices highlights just how dominant Wigan Warriors are perceived to be and who can blame the bookmakers of running scared and offering such short prices given what we have seen in the past 18 months.
For context, Sky Bet’s 10/1 shot makes a Wigan Warriors treble more likely than Catalans Dragons, beaten Grand Finalists from 2023, to lift the trophy at Old Trafford this year.
Leeds Rhinos, widely tipped to take a leap forward in 2024 before disappointing are also priced at 10/1 to lift the Grand Final under new head coach Brad Arthur.
Should Wigan Warriors complete the treble, they’d take their tally of consecutive trophies to nine and the total under Matt Peet’s reign to 10. At that point, there would be no question of the club’s ‘Dynasty’ status.
