Wigan Warriors have confirmed that talented youngster Zach Eckersley has penned a new four-year deal with the club. It means that Eckersley will be with the Cherry and Whites until the end of the 2028 Super League season as the club continue to look to the future.
The 20-year-old made his debut for Wigan back in 2022 and spent much of last season away from the club at London Broncos, Widnes Vikings and Barrow Raiders. However, he has been a member of the first-team picture under Matt Peet this season and he has more than taken the opportunity to demonstrate the talent he possesses.
In 16 appearances this season he has scored seven tries, with efforts coming during run outs on the wing, at centre and full-back as Eckersley’s versatility proved to be a valuable asset for Matt Peet.
As such, the club will have been keen to secure his long-term future and that is exactly what they’ve done, tying him down until the beginning of his peak years as a player.
“I’m really proud to be able to sign with the club for a further four years, I’m really happy at Wigan and I get to work every day with an amazing group of lads,” Eckersley told the club website.
“I’ve been given some fantastic opportunities already since moving up to the First Team squad, opportunities that have come about from working as hard as I can and that’s what I need to continue to do.”
Matt Peet added: “This is great news for the club. Zach has worked hard to develop through the pathway, and he is a fine young man with great ability on the field.
“He has already shown how talented he is and we look forward to supporting him through the next four years. I know Zach’s family are really proud of him and so are we.”
