Wigan Warriors strike up deal with Wigan Athletic to stay at DW Stadium

Wigan Warriors and Wigan Athletic have now agreed on a deal for the rugby league club’s continued rent of the DW Stadium

The two clubs have been locked in discussions ever since Phoenix 2021 Limited took over the football club, but Latics CEO Mal Brannigan spoke yesterday about how a deal was close as meetings with Wigan Executive Director Kris Radlinski have been fruitful.

“I’m hopeful it will be a very productive and rewarding partnership moving forward,” Brannigan told Wigan Today.

“You might ask Kris and he might give you a different answer! But from my perspective, I have a very positive relationship with him.

“We know that we both want the best for our individual organisation.

“At the same time, it’s important we remain respectful of each other’s jobs, and the roles we have to play.

“And also that there’s a strong willingness to see Wigan have a high profile within sport – whether that’s football or rugby.

“Where we can support each other, we will look to do so, and I’m looking forward to working together with their staff over the next few years.

Wigan chairman Ian Lenagan confirmed as much at a recent fans’ forum, according to Wigan Today: “The main thing is it’s all been agreed – and it’s good news for the town, for Latics and for the Warriors.”
