Wigan Warriors star tipped to play big role for NRL club if reported move comes off

One of the biggest stories circulating over the last month has been the future of John Batemane.

The England star had a terrific Rugby League World Cup. Though England came up short, the backrower returned from a suspension incurred for a late hit on Leeds Rhinos’ Aidan Sezer in the Super League semi-finals to have a huge impact on Shaun Wane’s side.

He did so as rumours ran wild about his future.

Earlier in 2022, Bateman had been linked with a move to Wests Tigers and a return to the NRL.

This was denied by his club Wigan Warriors as it was then reported that the Tigers had been deterred by the fee Wigan were requesting.

However, as former Hull KR boss Tim Sheens took charge he began an all out assault on Bateman including reportedly arranging a meeting with him whilst helping Italy in the World Cup.

After that, it was reported that the Tigers were now prepared to pay the full $250,00 to sign the backrow and since then it has been suggested that Bateman is ready to sign a three year deal with the club.

It was even reported down under that he had put his house up for sale, but this may be pure speculation.

Since England’s World Cup exit, Bateman has taken some deserved time away with his family but those down under believe a move is a matter of when rather than if.

That is the view of the Daily Telegraph who are tipping Bateman to revolutionise the Wests Tigers pack in 2023.

They have tipped him to be a sure starter in the opening game of the 2023 season in the backrow.

They have also suggested that his signing will tempt more players to join the rebuild at Wests Tigers.

So, Bateman could become the beating heart of a new era at the club according to journalists like David Riccio down under.
