Wigan Warriors star “still in line for magic” as Matt Peet gives injury update on trio

Today Wigan Warriors face Wakefield Trinity in a game which could see them close the gap on St Helens at the top of the table after the Champions lost to Catalans last night.

Then next week Wigan and St Helens will meet again in a huge Magic Weekend clash as the two teams look set to battle it out for top spot as we enter the final stretch of the season.

But first things first, Wigan will need to beat Wakefield today who were hit for 70 last week against Salford and could be like a wounded animal.

The Warriors won’t have it easy especially with a number of key players out in Cade Cust, Iain Thornley and Kaide Ellis who has been confirmed to have an injury which could see him miss today’s game.

There is also a minor doubt surrounding Liam Farrell.

On the Wigan website, Peet gave an update on Ellis saying it’s not too bad but could see him miss today’s game.

“As far as Kaide Ellis, it isn’t a particularly bad injury,” Peet said, “He set about running today but he has a bit of stiffness in his ankle so whether or not he’ll make this week, I’m not sure yet. It’s not an injury that will last any longer than one week.”

So, he should be back for the Magic Weekend and could be joined by another huge return from star halfback Cade Cust.

“Cade Cust is still in line for Magic,” Peet confirmed about his number six, “Either in and around Magic or possibly the week after.”

However, there was less positive news about Iain Thornley who is still being monitored closely: “With Iain, we’re waiting on more scans yet to see how both of his knees are at the moment, we monitor him closely.”
