One of Wigan Warriors’ star performers from their win over Hull KR has shared an injury update and assessed the game.
Wigan went to the home of the Robins and came away with the two points, becoming the first team to beat Hull KR as they won 28-12, moving themselves just two points behind Willie Peters’ side.
Hull FC have since leapfrogged them into second but Wigan sit in third having lost just twice, despite the doubts of many who had questioned the club’s form.
Key to defeating the Robins on Friday night was Wigan’s ability to ice the key moments, whilst also backing their impressive defence. Matt Peet would concede that his team had moments in the game where they were “second best”, however, he insisted his side were “brave with the ball”, something evident by three of the five tries originating from inside their own half.
Abbas Miski, who made his return to the side, also spoke on the huge physical nature as he assessed the game and offered an injury update.
Wigan Warriors star shares injury update with surgery admission
Miski had not played since Wigan’s Round Three trip to Las Vegas with the winger pulling out in the warm-up at Headingley in March, however, he made his return at Craven Park.
Speaking to club media about that, he said: “I’m happy to be back out there and happy to get the win, but that was a tough game to come back to.
“I just wanted to put in a good performance defensively and with my carries, but scoring a try was the cherry on top. I’ll focus now on my recovery and getting ready for the next game.”
Miski’s late try ensured the win with the winger scooping a loose ball and forcing his way over to add Wigan’s fifth. That capped a brilliant return with the winger make well over 100 metres and looking near back to his best.
He did concede that the knee injury that has ruled him out in recent weeks has improved to the point of returning to play, but that work load needed to be managed and surgery almost certainly required at some point.
Sharing an update, he said: “There’s been hard periods in which my training loads reduced a fair bit. It’s more of a chronic injury that I have to manage and eventually it’ll need surgery again.
“It’s been a tough process, but the physios, Matty, and the coaching staff have been very accommodating and I’m happy to be able to be out there playing.”
For now, its expected that he will be able to play through the injury but just have his workload managed. Should he miss out again, youngster Jacob Douglas would likely be called upon.
