Wigan Warriors star reveals huge transfer fell through

Super League

This weekend it will not be Leeds Rhinos playing at Headingley but Wigan Warriors and Hull KR meeting at the famous old stadium.

The two are meeting in the Challenge Cup semi-final at Headingley with Hull KR desperate to replicate the success they achieved at this stadium in 2015.

Wigan meanwhile are chasing a second consecutive Challenge Cup and Jai Field has spoken about this:

“Definitely excited. Didn’t get to play in the first game through injury against Leeds, so it’s looking forward to getting back out there on Sunday in a big game.

“Obviously it would be nice, but not looking too far ahead really. Hull KR have played great against us both times this year, so definitely going to have to be on it on Sunday to get a result.

“We don’t have any knockout competition in Australia like this at all, and especially on the scale, as the oldest running competition in the world.

“So, yeah, it’s definitely good once you get in to be involved in it, and like I said, there’s nothing like it at home, so to get out there and play in big games like that is definitely what you want in your career.”

Field is very excited to play at Headingley loving the atmosphere:

“Yeah, it is. The atmosphere is great. I’ve made great results here when I’ve played Leeds the last couple of years.  But the stadium itself is great and I feel like the fans are right on top of you here, so it makes for a good atmosphere on Sunday.

“I didn’t play in the cup tie here earlier in the season, so yeah, just looking forward to getting back out there now.”

Interestingly, Field could have been playing week in and week out at Headingley had his move to Leeds panned out.

Field addressed this when asked if he nearly joined the Rhinos in 2020.

Field said on this:

“Yeah, definitely a few things have panned out, logistically. I definitely could have been at Leeds, pretty much all steam ahead, but a couple of things fell through, didn’t end up happening.”
