This morning Wests Tigers confirmed the departure of Jackson Hastings.
The former Salford Red Devils and Wigan Warriors man leaves the club in a swap deal for David Klemmer who leaves the Newcastle Knights to be a part of Wests’ new look pack as ex-Hull KR boss Tim Sheens looks to revamp the side’s middle units after they finished bottom in 2022.
This new look pack is also set to feature Wigan Warriors star John Bateman who the Tigers are pursuing according to reports down under with the club willing to pay $250,000 to acquire Bateman according to the Daily Telegraph.
Hastings was described as “the fall guy” in this pursuit of Bateman due to the fact that they’re “not the best of mates” according to reports from Australia.
This morning, following the announcement of Hastings’ departure, the Daily Telegraph has reported that the Tigers are “continuing discussions” with Bateman.
Yesterday, the Wigan and England star said he was going to enjoy some “well-earned family time” following England’s dramatic exit from the Rugby League World Cup at the expense of Samoa in Golden Point.
So, the deal may be put on hold a touch as Bateman enjoys a deserved rest but the discussions are said to be on going meaning that there could be a major update either soon.
