Wigan Warriors star Bevan French’s future takes dramatic twist as major deal reported

Wigan Warriors star Bevan French has been in the limelight throughout 2022 for both on and off the field reasons.

On it, the Australian livewire has been incredible, breaking the record for the amount of tries scored in a Super League game as well as striking up a brilliant partnership with fellow Aussie Jai Field.

Together, the duo have terrorised Super League defences, contributing heavily to the success that Wigan have so far enjoyed in 2022 with a Challenge Cup victory under their belts.

Off it, French’s future continues to be a major talking point with the ball said to be firmly in the flyer’s court.

Now, renowned Newcastle Herald journalist Barry Toohey has maintained throughout the saga that French will be a Newcastle Knights player in 2023 despite a ‘mega’ offer tabled by the Warriors.

After being asked on social media giant, Twitter, whether there had been “Any more news on the French front?” Toohey replied: “He’ll sign for one year David.”

Following Wigan’s brilliant 30-10 win over reigning champions St Helens last week, French was asked by Sky Sports analyst Jon Wells at the touch screen about where his future lies.

Previously, French has been about the decision, and he revealed just how important the factors such as family are in making such a big career decision.

“I still haven’t come to that conclusion yet,” French said on Sky Sports after the game.

“I’m speaking every day with Matty (Peet) and people in Australia.

“They’ve (Wigan) put together a good package but I think family is quite important, so I’m trying to work ways around that.

“Hopefully (there will be a decision) soon, what I can say is I do love my time here but there are other things I have to look after, too.”

If Toohey is right, it would be a major loss to Super League and Wigan.
