Wigan Warriors star Bevan French ‘pretty close’ to major deal

If there is one star whose future seems to have been talked about more than ever before, it is that of Wigan Warriors star Bevan French.

The mercurial talent has lit up Super League for the past three seasons, but has had to endure some difficult times along the way in terms of injury and personal loss.

That being said, French has been in incredible form in 2022, registering 24 tries already and striking up a devastating partnership with fellow livewire Jai Field.

The duo have been irrepressible at times, finding gaps in opponents’ defences that no one knew were there.

But, French is out of contract at the end of the 2022 Super League season and there has been much made about his future.

Earlier in the season, the former Parramatta Eels man was linked with a move to Hull FC, whilst murmurings of a transfer to Leigh Centurions haven’t gone away.

However, French dropped the biggest hint yet of his future last night following yet another hat-trick against Hull KR live on Sky Sports after being asked by pundit Jenna Brooks.

The Australian revealed that he was ‘pretty close’ to getting a deal done, with a wry smile suggesting that the news is soon around the corner.

“I’m getting pretty close,” French said on Sky Sports.

“But, I’ve been saying that for the least few weeks that I’m close.

“I guess fortunately I’m in a good side and we are hitting good form, so I keep getting close to a deal and then things get put back to square one.”

However, it would be a major boon for both Wigan and Super League if French chooses to remain at the DW Stadium or at least in the UK top flight with his performances regularly wowing audiences and his humble attitude going down a storm with viewers and fans alike.
