Wigan Warriors are heading to Perpignan for an important game this Saturday, which could be vital in the race for the League Leaders’ Shield.
After defeat to Brad Arthur’s Leeds Rhinos, they sit behind Hull KR on points difference, and will be desperate to head into their game against the Robins in two weeks’ time in a position where they would overtake them with a victory.
After that, they face two sides battling for a spot in the playoffs – namely Leeds Rhinos and Salford Red Devils – and then it’s playoffs.
With so little time remaining of the regular season, the League Leaders’ Shield, which not long ago, seemed certain to be heading to the Brick Community Stadium, could fall out of reach with any slip-up.
Also aiming to spoil the party will be Warrington Wolves, who end the season against Huddersfield Giants and London Broncos and will surely be aiming for some big scores in those ties.
Wigan Warriors show why they’re the best-supported team in Super League
Leigh Leopards had close to 2000 fans in Perpignan earlier this year, with the Catalans Commercial Director telling L’Indépendant: “We are closing the ticket office to supporters of the Leigh club. The club has no choice.
“If we continue, we will be invaded and we don’t want to have the feeling of playing away. It’s an important match, we especially need the supporters to support our Dracs.”
Now, Wigan are doing their best to match that feat.
Catalan Media, via Twitter, said: Over 1500 Wigan Warriors fans expected in Perpignan on Saturday.
“The official away allocation sold out months ago; 15 60-seater coaches are heading up from Lloret and travelling fans are still snapping up tickets all over Stade Gilbert Brutus. It’s going to be epic.”
Across the whole stadium, there are fewer than 500 seats remaining and under 1000 spaces left for General Admission – meaning we could be seeing a spectacular game in front of a sold-out Stade Gilbert Brutus.

They only get good support when they are winning (helped by ALL R.L. OFFICIALS)on and off grounds they play at.
