Wigan Warriors set to appeal five-match ban given to Kaide Ellis

Wigan Warriors’ Kaide Ellis will be heading to a tribunal tonight in a bid to overturn or reduce his five-match ban.

Catalans Dragons’ Jordan Dezaria and Wigan’s Ellis were banned for three and five matches respectively for throwing punches during their sides’ Betfred Super League clash in Perpignan a fortnight ago

Both players had been charged with a Grade E offence, described as ‘Punching – sustained and repeated or violent  – makes contact with the head of an opponent’.

Ellis was found guilty as charged, while Dezaria saw the grading of his offence reduced to grade C. Both players were also fined £500.

However, Ellis and Wigan will be heading to a tribunal according to an RFL spokesperson in a bid to reduce the length of suspension.

Head coach Matt Peet spoke about the appeal: “We feel there is something that warrants further discussion.

“We understand what he did was unacceptable but we feel the length of the ban needs reconsideration.”

Meanwhile, this week’s judiciary was as followed:

Jack Hughes (Warrington) – Grade A Late Hit on Passer – 1 Match Penalty Notice
Brad Martin (Castleford) – Grade C High Tackle – 2 Match Penalty Notice
Mitchell Pearce (Catalans) – Grade C Dangerous Throw – 2 Match Penalty Notice
Zane Tetevano (Leeds) – Grade B High Tackle – Reckless – 2 Match Penalty Notice
Will Pryce (Huddersfield) – Grade F Dangerous Throw – Refer to Tribunal

The following player was handed a caution:

Tyla Hepi (Castleford) – Strikes – Raising knee in tackle
