Wigan Warriors have beaten Leeds Rhinos to confirm themselves as winners of the League Leaders Shield in the Women’s Super League, with Denis Betts’ side still on for both an unbeaten season and a second treble-winning campaign in a row.
The Warriors won it all in 2025, even winning the mid-season Nines competition, and they could complete another treble in 2026 having already won the Challenge Cup, and now confirming themselves as League Leaders Shield winners, something that automatically puts them through to the Grand Final in late September.
They confirmed that with one of their hardest-fought wins of the season so far as they beat Leeds Rhinos 26-20 thanks to tries from Cerys Jones, Lucie Sams, Eva Hunter, and a brace from Mary Coleman.
It wasn’t plain sailing for Wigan as Leeds looked like mounting a comeback but they ultimately fell short. Reigning Woman of Steel Eva Hunter put Wigan 26-10 up in the 43rd minute but the Warriors wouldn’t score another point, and tries from Liv Whitehead and Shannon Brown created tension but ultimately, Wigan held on.
Despite there still being two games of the regular season to go, in which Wigan will play Leeds and York, today’s win has now confirmed the Warriors as the League Leaders Shield winners, whilst also confirming their place in the Super League Grand Final, which will be played at the Brick Community Stadium.
Such a dominant season has been rewarded with first place and with that, home advantage for the Grand Final as the Warriors seek a second treble in as many seasons. The Grand Final will be played on Sunday, 27th September, live on Sky Sports. Second and third in the competition will face off on September 18th to confirm who Wigan will meet in the Grand Final.
