Wigan Warriors have released their 2023 home shirt and it is a lovely blend of history and modernity.
The jersey uses the traditional Wigan look of cherry and white hoops like their 2022 kit.
But this time the stripes have added detail on them such as fades and almost shading like textures to add to the look of the jersey and ensure it is not simple as previous years an certainly ensures an artistic aesthetic.
In many ways the shirt embodies the Wigan club.
They perhaps have the best history in Super League with the most titles to their name as well as a record 20 Challenge Cups the last of which was won in 2022 at the Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium.
That underlines their modernity as well. After some years in the wilderness after some early success in Super League, the Warriors have won four Grand Finals in the last 12 years alongside other trophies such as three League Leaders’ Shields, three Challenge Cups and a World Club Challenge.
A great club with a strong past as well as a strong future, the jersey embodies both especially in its launch with the Wigan academy products set to lead the Warriors forwards being identified and depicted in the Wigan shirts they grew up in.
Can they emulate those great sides of the past with success in the present?
