Warrington Wolves have announced the signing of Wigan Warriors prop Liam Byrne ahead of the 2026 Super League season.
Byrne has penned a two-year deal with the Wolves to ensure he will be at the Halliwell Jones Stadium until the end of the 2027 season at least, with the club holding the option of an extra year.
The forward has spent his entire career to date with Wigan Warriors, making 152 appearances for the Cherry and Whites having debuted for the club back in 2019. He was part of Matt Peet’s quadruple winning side last season and he’ll be looking to lead the Warriors to Grand Final glory once more this year before moving on.
He joins what promises to be something of a new look Warrington pack for next season with Toafofoa Sipley and Tevita Pangai Jr signed for next year, too.
Wigan Warriors forward joins Warrington Wolves
“I’m excited for the opportunity to join Warrington next season,” Byrne told the club website.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time at Wigan and I’ll always be grateful for everything I’ve experienced here, but I feel this is the right stage of my career to take on a new challenge.
“Warrington is a huge club and I’ve had plenty of tough battles against them over the years, so I know the quality and passion that exists there. I’m really excited to be working under Sam Burgess and will give everything for the Warrington fans next season.”

Sam Burgess added: “We’re excited to welcome Liam to Warrington next season. He’s a fierce competitor who’s achieved a lot of success in his career so far. At 26 his best years are still in front of him and he will be an important player for us in the years to come.”
Speaking of Byrne’s departure, Wigan Warriors boss Matt Peet took the opportunity to pile praise on the front-rower.
“Liam’s a great player and an outstanding young man. We wish him all the best and he will be missed by everyone at the club,” Peet said.
“Personally it has been a joy to work with Liam since he joined the academy on trial a decade ago. I am very proud of him. He and his family are brilliant. We are all working hard to ensure Liam enjoys his last few months of his time with us on and off the field.”
