Wigan Warriors were second best at Headingley as they lost 22-4 to Leeds Rhinos in their second and final pre-season friendly ahead of the new Super League season.
Here’s our Wigan player ratings from West Yorkshire.
Jai Field: Dropped a wicked spiral kick from Jake Connor and never truly got going during his stint on the field. 5
Zach Eckersley: Got Wigan’s try and did what he could in an attempt to stake a claim ahead of round one. 6
Adam Keighran: Kept Bevan French’s kick in play in the build up to Eckersley’s try and got through some good work. 6
Jake Wardle: Couldn’t find too much joy in truth but tried hard in the first half. 5
Liam Marshall: Dug deep for the hard yards but couldn’t find many attacking opportunities. 5
Bevan French: Set up Wigan’s try with a teasing kick over the top of the line but looked a little rusty at times. 6
Harry Smith: Kicked well in testing conditions. 6
Tyler Dupree: A little soft for Cam Smith’s try but played big minutes and made an impressive break in the second half. 7
Kruise Leeming: A short stint on the field before being replaced by Forber. 6
Luke Thompson: Made the most of the hit out with some big carries. 7
Junior Nsemba: Another to play big minutes as he gave Leeds problems with his carries. 7
Liam Farrell: Directly set up Eckersley with a basketball pass, carried well. 6
Kaide Ellis: Most of his best work came defensively but like Dupree, he could have been stronger on the line to prevent Smith. 6
Wigan Warriors bench
Patrick Mago: Had two stints and looked hungry to impress in both. 7
Liam Byrne: Steady away through the middle on his second outing of pre-season. 6
Harvie Hill: Strong in contact and came in for praise from Sean O’Loughlin at the end of the game. 6
Sam Walters: Emerged just before the break and defended well when he had to. 6
Tom Forber: Had a big stint at hooker and looked the part for much of it. 7
Jack Farrimond: Got back really well to deny Connor a try just after the break with his presence enough to force the knock on. 7
Jacob Douglas: Unfortunate in the build up to Newman’s try but did well on the second attempt. 6
Harvey Makin: Handled the senior physicality well. 6
Taylor Kerr: Caught the eye in moments. 6
Noah Hodkinson: Looked lively at full-back and would have finished off Dupree’s break if not for some superb defending. 6
George Hirst: Got stuck in on his first Wigan run out against Super League opposition and relished the physical side of things. 6
Josh Cartwright: Another youngster who had good spells. 6
Finley Yeomans: Got on for some valuable experience. 6
