The Super League meeting between Wigan Warriors and Toulouse Olympique will now form part of a double header, with a Championship fixture joining the day’s proceedings.
Wigan will host the French side at the Brick Community Stadium in Round 22 of the competition, with the fixture set to take place on August 8.
However, they will now be joined by second-tier sides Salford RLFC and Swinton Lions, in what is said to be a “chance to create a real occasion for players and fans,” per Salford CEO Ryan Brierley.
Salford were originally supposed to host the game on Sunday 9 August, but planned pitch renovation works by the local council have forced the side to find an alternative venue.
The Championship fixture will take place at 2:00pm, with the Super League tie commencing at 5:30pm.
CEO Brierley said as part of a Salford statement: “This isn’t about finding somewhere to play. If we were asking our fans to travel away from home, it had to be for something worth making the journey for.
“Playing at one of rugby league’s great stadiums as part of a Super League double header gives us the chance to create a real occasion for our players and fans.”
Also in their statement, Salford pay credit to Wigan “Chief Executive Kris Radlinski, for their support and cooperation in making this fixture possible.”
