Wigan Warriors are fresh off the back of a Las Vegas win but they’re already back in action and set to face a “tough” Huddersfield Giants side.
That’s how loose forward Kaide Ellis described Luke Robinson’s side when speaking with club media about the upcoming game and how Wigan have prepared for it, considering they were stateside just a matter of days ago.
The Warriors came up trumps in Vegas as they dominated Warrington to win 48-24, shipping all 24 of those points in the final 15 minutes after seeming to take the foot of the throat, and the Wigan forward reflected on the event.
“It was a massive week and a privilege to be part of such a great experience,” Ellis said to club media.
“Even though it was a normal round game it had that final feel about it with all the promotion in the build up. The big stage, the packed out stadium and all the fans made it such a big occasion. To top it all off we put in a strong performance to get the two points.
“As a team we didn’t want to go to Vegas and lose on such a massive stage. It would have put a downer on the trip if we didn’t get two points, so that was a big motivator for everyone.”
Wigan Warriors man explains Las Vegas recovery ahead of ‘tough’ Huddersfield Giants
Whilst the benefits of playing in Vegas were huge with the occasion and the publicity, the downside was that Wigan didn’t get back to England until Tuesday and that has meant limited time for sessions ahead of their clash with Huddersfield on Sunday.
Explaining that, Ellis said: “We didn’t get back until Tuesday night so recovery has been the main focus. We’ve had two sessions to get the body feeling good and our aim has been to do what we need to do to get the body right. The coaches have put trust in us to get ourselves right so come Sunday we have to be firing out the blocks.”
They’ll likely be thankful that they’re not facing one of the competition’s in-form sides but Ellis argued that the winless Giants still pose a difficult task.
“They’re always a tough side to face,” he argued.
“Although they haven’t won a Super League game this season, they’ve only just been beaten in a few of those. We can’t overlook Huddersfield as opponents and we have to get our start right to avoid paying a price.”
Matt Peet has named a very strong squad for the game with Ellis one of those expected to take the field at the Brick Community Stadium.
