Wigan Warriors and York Knights have named their sides for this afternoon’s Super League fixture at the LNER Community Stadium
Wigan, fresh off a 48-10 win over Wakefield Trinity last week, will be hoping for a fourth win in a row, with victories of late including the Challenge Cup Final and in Paris against Catalans Dragons.
A win this afternoon would move them up to fourth in the table, and would sit on the same points as Wakefield and Hull KR, with the Robins’ far superior points difference keeping them in third.
York meanwhile, are looking for their fourth win of the season, and will be hoping to run the Warriors close, as they did in the reverse fixture back in March.
Wigan won 22-20 that evening, but plenty expect it to be a much more comfortable showing from Matt Peet’s men this afternoon.
This game is game one of three in Super League today, with Catalans Dragons v Bradford Bulls and Castleford Tigers v Toulouse Olympique taking place later today.
Super League Team News: Wigan Warriors make one change for York Knights trip
Starting with the hosts, York welcome back David Nofoaluma and Nikau Williams from illness and loan, and they return in the place of Kieran Buchanan and Jon Bennison respectively.
The rest of the starting 13 remains the same, but the Knights’ bench is considerably light, with only one out-and-out forward on the interchanges.
Xavier Va’a is joined by half-back Ata Hingano, hooker Denive Balmforth and winger Jon Bennison on the substitutes bench, with some of the York forwards set to play some big minutes in the heat this afternoon.
Wigan make one switch from their 17 that beat Wakefield last time out. Ethan Havard misses out through injury, meaning there is a starting spot for Sam Eseh. Kian McDermott is named on the bench.
Bevan French is again amongst the substitutes, with Jack Farrimond continuing in the starting spots alongside Harry Smith.
