The breakout star of the World Cup has to be Dom Young.
The Wakefield born former Huddersfield Giants man has been catching the eye in the NRL scoring plenty of tries in 2022 but has shown that he is in fact World Class with the form he has shown in the World Cup.
After scoring a lovely try against Fiji in a friendly as well as creating tries for others, Young scored a delightful brace against Samoa in the opener which underlined just how good the young Englishman is.
He backed that up with 247 metres against France and two more tries including a 100 metre effort which saw many liken him to Wigan legend Martin Offiah due to excitement both men bring to fans through their ability to score mesmeric tries.
Offiah has now had his say on the young man.
“We’ve seen plenty of world-class outside backs go out to Australia and come back with their tails between their legs,” Offiah side to the Canberra Times.
“I heard James Graham say that Dom wasn’t particularly successful in his first year in the NRL.
“But credit to him, he has backed himself by sticking, he’s got through his problems and now he commands a position in an NRL team.
“What he is doing in this tournament as a 20-year-old is absolutely phenomenal.”
He also said that he believed that the winger is now undroppable.
“It’s almost impossible to not pick Dom now,” the former Widnes and Salford man said perhaps believing that Young could be England’s key to success.
