Wigan Warriors “join forces” with Wigan Athletic in great initiative

Wigan Athletic and Wigan Warriors have announced that they have “joined forces” to show their support for Andy’s Man Club, who will be using the DW Stadium as a prime location for their free mental health sessions.

Warriors second-rower Liam Farrell and Latics Star Callum Lang were joined pitch-side by representatives from Andy’s Man Club on Wednesday to celebrate the opening of a new club at the DW Stadium, which will see Wiganers across the Borough receive invaluable mental health support at the town’s biggest sporting venue.

Founded in 2016 by ex-Ireland international Rugby League player Luke Ambler and his mother-in-law Elaine, Andy’s Man Club are a men’s suicide prevention charity, which offers free support groups to men across the United Kingdom.

The charity has made some incredible progress towards ending the stigma surrounding men’s mental health over the years, providing hundreds of places for men to come together in a safe environment to talk about issues and problems they have faced or are currently facing.

Having already set up a number of different locations in the North West, Andy’s Man Club has already had a real positive impact throughout the region, and Latics and Warriors both look forward to supporting their work in Wigan by enabling them to use the DW Stadium for their weekly group sessions.

Chris, who is a proud facilitator of Andy’s Man Club’s work in Wigan, said: “Andy’s Man Club Wigan are proud to be supported by Wigan Warriors and Wigan Athletic in opening a new club in Wigan.

“If we can get one man to talk, then we have achieved our aim – working together.”

The first meeting will take place on Monday 17 June at 7pm, and will be held underneath the East Stand. If you would like to find out more information, you can come down to meet Andy’s Man Club’s Wigan team on Saturday 22 July prior to Latics’ pre-season friendly against Everton.
