John Bateman is the man of the day it seems.
The Wigan Warriors forward has been really impressive in the last two games of the World Cup group stage notching a number of assists and having a telling impact in an England shirt.
However, the second-row has been making headlines this morning due to reports down under from the Daily Telegraph that a $250,000 deal has been agreed for the backrow with Wests Tigers whilst reports of a three-year deal also doing the rounds.
Wigan Today have since reported that there has been no official approach from the Tigers.
However, Bateman is not the only England player at the heart of rumours regarding NRL clubs. Yesterday, Rugby League Live reported that Super League Champions St Helens are preparing for offers from NRL club for star player Jack Welsby.
Welsby has also been brilliant in the World Cup especially in the opener against Samoa.
So, perhaps attracting attention from down under, recently Bateman appeared on TV in Australia on Fox which was recently shared by the Daily Telegraph and talked up Welsby to the Australian press.
He said: “He’s come on leaps and bound since he made his debut at St Helens. He gets better every year. He got nominated for Man of Steel and the Young Player of the Year this year. He’s been really good so hopefully we can get him firing in the World Cup.”
Bateman also reflected on what it is like to play in a home World Cup after losing the 2017 final in Australia: “Yeah, on the back of the 2017 World Cup I got to see what it was all about. After losing that final, I said I was looking to the next one which is of course at home.”
