Wigan Warriors surrendered their spot at the top of the Super League table on Friday night as they lost to Warrington Wolves on home soil. It was Wigan’s second straight defeat having fallen short at Hull FC the week before and Hull KR’s win over London Broncos ensures the Cherry and Whites now sit third.
The club still have a game in hand to play, though, and a win in that game against Leigh Leopards next week could be enough to send them back to the summit, depending on how round 20 progresses. Matt Peet is without some key names at present and here’s a look at the club’s current injury status
Brad O’Neill
O’Neill was withdrawn in the second half of last week’s loss to Warrington after pulling up and hitting the deck with what appeared to be a knee issue. Peet confirmed it was his knee after the game and admitted it was a worry. We’ll know more when the head coach speaks this week.
Jai Field
Field has been out for more than seven weeks now with a hamstring injury but it seems as though he’ll be back before too long with Peet confirming he has now returned to full training.
Bevan French
French is also out with a hamstring issue, but he won’t be seen for some time yet with the Australian two weeks into an eight week lay off. As such, French may well be looking at a return in time to face either Hull KR or Leeds Rhinos in September.
Tom Forber
The Wigan Warriors hooker picked up an ankle issue while playing with Barrow Raiders and faces another couple of weeks on the sidelines.
Willie Isa
Isa hasn’t been seen since fracturing his ankle in April and with his contract expiring, it seems there will be a decision to be made. He’s working hard to regain his fitness but it’s unknown whether he will return to action this season.
Mike Cooper
Cooper picked up a head injury in the win over Leigh Leopards four weeks ago and hasn’t been seen since. Given the nature of the injury he won’t be rushed back to action.
Adam Keighran
The Australian took a knock to the head against Hull FC and sat out of the loss to Warrington last week. Like Cooper, he will be given the time he needs to prove he is fit to play.
Kruise Leeming
The hooker was included in Wigan’s 21-man squad last week after making a swift recovery from an ankle injury. However, he wasn’t deemed to be quite ready to be involved. He should be ready to take on Huddersfield on Thursday, though.
