Wigan Warriors injury latest as Jai Field update given

Wigan Warriors Jai Field

Wigan Warriors boss Matt Pett has confirmed that Jai Field is expected to feature in Saturday’s clash with Leeds Rhinos. Field returned from a hamstring injury to feature in Wigan’s win over Huddersfield Giants last week after spending almost two months on the sidelines.

However, he was conspicuous by his absence on Tuesday night as the Warriors took on Leigh in their rearranged round two clash. Field has been named in the 21-man squad for Saturday’s game against Leeds Rhinos, though, and it seems as though he will be involved with Peet moving to explain his thinking.

“It was always the plan that three games in 10 days would have been dangerous after so long out,” Peet said. “It would have been a huge spike in his load of work, so we had a choice to make whether he played in game number two, or one and three. We chose to go one and three, and that’s why he didn’t play on Tuesday.”

Field will be looking to make a big impact for the Cherry and Whites as they go in search of their third win in as many games and tighten their grip on top spot.

Wigan have also been boosted by the fitness of Tom Forber, with the young hooker set to play for the club’s second string this week before potentially stepping into the first-team picture, Peet has confirmed.

“He’s going to play for our reserves on Saturday,” he said. “I did consider putting him on the bench, but I just feel, for his confidence, getting some minutes under his belt, playing some decent minutes in the reserves game will be better than playing off the bench for us.”

Wigan Warriors are still without Brad O’Neill, Bevan French, Willie Isa and Mike Cooper through injury.
