Wigan Warriors injury blow as Matt Peet gives updates on Adam Keighran and Jai Field

Wigan Warriors boss Matt Peet expects to be without Adam Keighran for a few months after seeing him pick up a knee injury last weekend.

Keighran picked up the issue in the first half of Wigan’s Challenge Cup fourth round defeat to Hull FC on Saturday night, with the centre hitting the deck in the build up to the Cherry and Whites’ first try of the game, scored by Zach Eckersley. He received treatment on the field and was able to stay on and see out the full 80 minutes.

However, the centre could now be looking at a lengthy lay-off with Peet laying out fears of a medial ligament injury.

“We’re pretty confident Adam has done his MCL so we need a bit more feedback there,” said Peet, per Serious About RL’s sister site Wigan Today. ”We’re expecting it’ll be a few months.”

Jai Field was the other player to pick up an injury during Saturday’s game, with the full-back being forced to leave the field of play in the first-half of the clash with the Black and Whites.

Peet seemed relatively relaxed about the issue immediately after the game, explaining that Field had felt tightness in his hamstring. However, speaking ahead of this weekend’s trip to Leeds Rhinos, he was unable to provide clarity around the Australian’s injury.

“Jai has had these sorts of injuries before so we have got some more appointments before we’ll be able to put a timeframe on it,” the Wigan Warriors boss added.

He continued: “I think in every league and every sport, you see that hamstring injuries are quite common, particularly in sprinters and fast twitch athletes, and it’s something that we’re constantly looking at and exploring, and how we can train our athletes to the best, make them more robust, and that’s in every part of their life – the way they train, the nutrition, the sleep – I think every club wishes they knew how to solve this one.”
