Ireland have named a 32-man squad for this autumn’s international double header against Wales. The squad is littered with Super League talent and can be expected to be trimmed down ahead of the games.
Players from Leeds Rhinos, Warrington Wolves, Wigan Warriors, Hull KR, Leigh Leopards and Huddersfield Giants are all included with some big names featuring on the ‘long-haul’ squad list.
Wigan’s Liam Byrne is one of the most high profile players set to be involved with the prop being given the opportunity to add to the seven Ireland caps he has already collected. He was on the losing side in last weekend’s Grand Final and looks set to link up with the Wolfhounds before making the switch to Warrington Wolves.
A raft of Byrne’s future teammates could also be included, with Toby King, Josh Thewlis, Jake Thewlis and Joe Philbin being named by Ged Corcoran.
James Bentley and Tom Nicholson-Watton are Leeds’ representatives in the Ireland squad, with the latter set to collect his first international caps.
Keanan Brand has been one of the stars of Super League this year and he’s named alongside his club teammate Frankie Halton. Meanwhile, Huddersfield Giants quartet Aidan McGowan, Connor Carr, George King and Harry Rushton are all named, too.
Louix Gorman of Hull KR has also been named after a season in which he made appearances for Salford Red Devils, London Broncos and Featherstone Rovers.
Ireland take on Wales at The Gnoll in Neath on October 25 for the first of two games this autumn, with the second meeting between the two sides taking place at Post Office Road in Featherstone on November 1.
